Only a Mother

birth-and-diapersMy almost seven month old has no problem with the input of food but for the past week has been having some problems with the output of what once was food. The one particular day, he was really struggling. It’s so difficult to see a baby struggle especially when there’s little that can be done to help at that moment. I tried to assist my boy in the least gross way possible (some leg lifting, tummy rubbing) and eventually there was relief for us both. Shame, the poor little guy.

My husband who could hear and had a view of all of what was going on  from where he was sitting behind the computer, shakes his head and says “only a mother.” This made me think about some of the “only a mother” things moms end up doing. The nappies, the soggy biscuits, the spewage, the “snollie patrollie”, the bed wetter’s linen… There seems to be way too many outputs in these scenarios.

I don’t even think there is a thought process in the above mentioned. It’s instinct: the wipe-up, the pick-up, the wash- up-they all happen without an inkling of a thought. ..incredible isn’t it?

Only a mother!
